Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi sparring gets “out of control” as referee steps in to separate fighters

Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi had to be separated when an explosive sparring session got out of hand.

Malignaggi has been helping McGregor prepare for his fight with Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas next month.

But veteran referee Joe Cortez – who has been officiating the sessions – was forced to step in.

He told RUSH 93: “It was the real thing, I had to stop the action, say ‘you guys are a little out of control here, you’ve got to stop this.’ You know, they got a little rough.

“They were both roughing each other up and I had to stop the action like it was a regular fight.

“They were holding too much – they were trying to punch each other.

“So I had to call ‘time, alright guys you’ve got to stop this right now, I want a good, clean round – give me a sportsman like conduct you understand?'”

Having never boxed professionally, McGregor called in Cortez to ensure he understands the rules.

The Irishman is the current UFC lightweight champion but has opted to face the best boxer of his generation on August 26.
