Taylor Swift to perform CFP title game halftime show?

Will Taylor Swift perform at halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game? Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Taylor Swift reportedly has been tabbed as the halftime performer at the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship.

“She will headline a concert in Centennial Olympic Park during halftime of the game,” a source states, per an Entertainment Tonight report. “It will be a free concert. ESPN has her booked for the event and has a massive deal to release new music from [her upcoming album] ‘Reputation’ through its college football coverage this season.”

As the source notes, Swift’s new song, “Look What You Made Me Do,” is already seeing heavy rotation during ESPN’s college football coverage this season. Another new Swift song from her upcoming album — “…Ready For It?” — was previewed Saturday during the Alabama-Florida State game ahead of its official release Monday.

In other words, marketing synergy, especially given Swift’s upcoming album, “Reputation,” is set for release on Nov. 10, smack dab in the middle of the college football season.

ESPN, however, has pumped the brakes on a Swift halftime performance on Jan. 8, 2018, in Atlanta calling the report “inaccurate.”

“We are pleased that Taylor chose ESPN and ABC’s college football coverage as a platform to debut her new song ‘…Ready For It?’ however, there is nothing more to announce at this time,” ESPN said in a statement.

Interestingly, the report notes that Swift is evidently precluded from performing at a Super Bowl halftime show due to her endorsement relationship with Coke and the Super Bowl currently is aligned with Pepsi.

Once again, marketing synergy.
